Our Mission
The mission of the Tulsa Black Mental Health Alliance is to engage the underserved, educate the underrepresented, and equip under-resourced communities to disrupt systemic oppression and the stigma of black mental health.
The Tulsa Black Mental Health Alliance (TBMHA) has a rich history that is deeply rooted in the community it serves. In 2022 a core group of community members came together to explore the gaps and barriers of mental health support in the Black community and the impact that those barriers had on communities of color. Collectively we decided to answer three simple questions; 1.) How do we increase the representation of mental health providers in communities of color? 2.) How do we disrupt the stigma of mental health in the Black community? 3.) What gaps need to be filled as it relates to the criminalization of community members in crisis or in need?
At the TBMHA we believe whenever there is a community crisis, it requires a community response and that the people closest to the problems are closest to the solutions. As the TBMHA it is our hope that our mission will inspire and bring together a new generation of mental health advocates with bold visions and ideas to create safe, just, and healthy communities free from violence and harm.
